Back to Spain: Narges Mohammadi defends her PhD thesis on Tuesday 21 July 2025

POSTED: 21 July 2025

After the end of her ESR project, Narges moved to Germany to take up a new job in industry. But now she is back in Seville, Spain, to defend her PhD thesis on Simulation of reeving systems using the Arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian approach and modal superposition on Tuesday 21 July 2024 at 11:00 CEST. On-line audience from THREAD and others is welcome (MS Teams meeting ID: 378 570 304 328 2, Passcode: j5Pj327w, click here).

Narges Mohammadi joined THREAD in July 2020 as ESR7 under the supervision of José Escalona (USE). Her research focussed on an Arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian approach for the simulation of reeving systems that are modelled as a set of rigid bodies connected with wire ropes or belts using sheaves or reels. Typical industrial applications include elevators and cranes. Results were published in international journals of high reputation like Nonlinear Dynamics and Journal of Sound and Vibration (see link).

In February 2022, Narges joined the THREAD team at UIBK for a secondment to learn more about the open source multibody system simulation package EXUDYN. Later, starting from July 2022, she spent three months at THREAD's industrial partner MEVEA. She followed a co-simulation approach to incorporate in joint work with her secondment hosts the Arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian code for wire-ropes into MEVEA's multi-body software for simulating mobile harbour cranes, see N. Mohammadi, A. Rouvinen, P. Korkealaakso, J. Escalona: Real-time explicit co-simulation of wire-rope systems for industrial mobile harbor cranes; Nonlinear Dynamics 112(13095–13114)2024.

Today, we are looking forward to your defence and wish you all the best, Narges.
