Three THREAD related sessions at ECCOMAS Multibody Dynamics 2021 conference

From 12 December - 15 December, 2021 the 10th ECCOMAS Thematic Conference on Multibody Dynamics was held at the University of Technology and Economics in Budapest, Hungary. Because of the pandemic situation in most European countries, the conference with its three plenary lectures and more than 140 contributed papers had to be organised in a pure online format with video presentations being followed by lively discussions in the virtual meeting rooms.

Our principal investigators Johannes Gerstmayr (University of Innsbruck), José Escalona (University of Seville), Olivier Brüls (University of Liège) and Joachim Linn (Fraunhofer ITWM) took care of three THREAD related sessions with 15 contributed papers including eight papers being presented by THREAD ESRs and four more papers being authored or co-authored by scientists from the network:

  • Benjamin Bauer (Fraunhofer ITWM): A one-dimensional model for developable flexible elastic strips with isogeometric discretisation, co-authored by Michael Roller, Joachim Linn and Bernd Simeon,
  • Muhannad Hawwash (Fraunhofer ITWM): Effective inelastic bending behavior of multi-wire cables using Finite Elements accounting for wire contact, co-authored by Vanessa Dörlich, Joachim Linn, Ralf Müller and Roger Keller,
  • Denise Tumiotto (Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg): Stability of coarse grid discretisations for dissipative systems: numerical experiments for a test problem, co-authored by Martin Arnold,
  • Konstantina Ntarladima (University of Innsbruck): Dynamics of axially moving beams with transported discrete masses and contact, co-authored by Michael Pieber and Johannes Gerstmayr,
  • Armin Bosten (University of Liège and Fraunhofer ITWM): A nonsmooth approach to frictionless beam-to-beam contact, co-authored by Alejandro Cosimo, Joachim Linn and Olivier Brüls,
  • Jan Tomec (University of Rijeka): Analysis of beam-to-beam contact using mortar method, co-authored by Gordan Jelenić,
  • Davide Manfredo (Fraunhofer ITWM): First steps in data based constitutive modelling of inelastic effects in composite cables using Preisach hysteresis operators, co-authored by Vanessa Dörlich, Joachim Linn, Martin Arnold,
  • Martina Stavole (Friedrich Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg): Nonlinear Cosserat rod statics using homogenized constitutive properties of multi-layered cross-sections, co-authored by Sigrid Leyendecker,
  • Sudhanva Kusuma Chandrashekhara: Velocity based elements in the analysis post-critical behaviour of spatial frames, co-authored by Dejan Zupan,
  • Narges Mohammadi (University of Seville): Modeling the rotary inertia of sheaves with the Arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian Modal approach, co-authored by José Escalona,
  • Dominik Jungkenn (Fraunhofer ITWM): Realistic parameters for dynamic simulation of composite cables using a damped Cosserat rod model, co-authored by Fabio Schneider, Fredrik Andersson, Joachim Linn,
  • Mohammad Ali Saadat (CentraleSupélec): Modeling of spiral strands using 1D finite strain beam model: role of frictional contact interactions in the bending behavior, co-authored by Damien Durville.
