Basic techniques for modelling and simulation of beam structures and flexible multibody systems subjected to small and large deformations, discretisation strategies, industrial case studies by MEVEA, VALEO.


Continuum mechanical background, standard and modern finite element formulations.

Beam theory:
shear locking, consistency of stress resultants, kinematic compatibility, energy preservation.

Flexible multibody systems:
model order reduction and floating frame of reference approach, methods for geometrically nonlinear beams.

Finite rotations and their parametrisations (SO(3), SE(3), (dual) quaternions, Euler angles).
