The one-day industrial workshop on riser analysis took place on 30 January 2023 at the Lysaker branch of TechnipFMC. The workshop was organized by NTNU and TechnipFMC, which is a global leader in energy projects, technologies, systems, and services, providing clients with deep expertise across subsea and surface projects.
The workshop saw the participation of Per Thomas Moe (Manager Structural analysis engineering at TechnipFMC and member of THREAD's External Advisory Board), Lasse Moldestad (Principal Engineer, Analysis), Mathias Hansen (Engineering Team Leader), Halvor Gustad (Engineer, Analysis), Elena Celledoni (PI in THREAD), Brynjulf Owren (PI in THREAD), Andrea Leone (ESR4) and Ergys Çokaj (ESR5).
The focus of the event was on subsea engineering and in particular on riser analysis. It was shown the importance of investigating structural and environmental loads affecting the different components of a subsea development, in order to determine operating windows for different riser operations and the riser behaviour due to waves, current and vessel motions. Among the main topics of the workshop were loads and deformation measurements on the wellhead, efficiency study of the reactive flex joint (RFJ), global riser properties and riser response to different boundary conditions, Landing String system, and fatigue on the topside of a production facility.
The workshop was interesting and insightful, in particular for Andrea and Ergys who will be working closely with these problems during their industrial secondment at TechnipFMC.
