Jan Tomec defends his PhD thesis on Friday 11 October 2024

POSTED: 30 September 2024

Jan Tomec joined the THREAD network in April 2020 as ESR 9 under the supervison of Gordan Jelenić (University of Rijeka, Faculty of Civil Engineering, URFCE). Three years later, he was the first student who completed his 36-month ESR project in THREAD successfully (Stable long-term numerical integration of the Cosserat rod problem in large overall motion).

Jan published his results on various aspects of contact modelling and time integration in international journals with high reputation like Multibody System Dynamics, International Journal of Solids and Structures and Computer Methods in Applied Mechanics and Engineering (see link). Now, he will defend his PhD thesis on Friday 11 October 2024 at 11:00 AM. On-line audience from THREAD and others is welcome (Zoom Meeting ID: 878 3065 2205, Passcode: 731708, click here).

Jan has been known for his well structured and perfectly prepared presentations in numerous events at network level. He contributed actively to the cooperation of URFCE with two Slovenian THREAD partners from industry (C3M, SPACE-SI) including a three month secondment at SPACE-SI.

At an academic level, collaboration with the THREAD teams at Innsbruck and Liège was strengthened through secondments to UIBK and to ULG. In October 2020, Jan presented THREAD at the Science festival in Rijeka together with Konstantina who was on a secondment at URFCE at the time. His presentation "Dynamics all around us" at Researchers' Night 2022 paved the way for THREAD's engagement in the 2023 edition of this event.

Your fellow ESRs as well as some of the PIs will be following your defence online. We all wish you good luck, Jan.
